ICF makes a clear distinction between consulting and coaching practices. Advice giving is at the heart of this distinction. And yet, Core Competencies make no direct reference to guide coaches on best practices for sharing opinion and experience with clients. Dr. Rife will open a discussion by sharing thoughts around the areas where Core Competencies offer insights into advice giving, along with some of the reasons to be careful about inserting opinion into coaching conversations.
